Restoration of the Knossos dolphin fresco, 1700-1450 BCE. Most of the dolphin fresco was painted by the Dutch artist & architect Piet de Jong, who was employed by Arthur Evans in the 1920s to restore some of the frescoes, extrapolating from their surviving details. Along with the Gilliérons, de Jong took an extremely free hand at interpretation, an approach which is shocking by modern archaeological standards. Their works are, however, striking and stylish and helped to popularise the Minoan aesthetic, of which many genuine examples do exist.
Choose a 24” (60cm) silver tone chain, or an 18” (45cm) black leather cord or black organza-&-cotton cord. A pendant on a chain or organza-&-cotton cord comes in a sturdy black card gift box; a pendant on a leather cord comes in an organza bag, so as not to distort the leather by tight folding.
