Pompeii Roman fresco winged ‘erote’ figure, oval pendant necklace
This figure is probably a winged erote or love-deity, and is from the frescoes at the House of the Ancient Hunt, Pompeii. Roman, 1st century. The erotes formed Aphrodite’s retinue, and were deities associated with love, sex and marriage. Individual erotes include Anteros (Love Returned), Himeros (Impetuous Love), Hedylogos (Sweet-talk), Hymenaios (Bridal-Hymn), Hermaphroditus (Hermaphrodite), and Pothos (Longing).
The pendant setting is made from metal alloy, and the glass cabochon measures 25 x 18mm. Choose a 24” (60cm) antique bronze tone chain, or an 18” (45cm) black leather cord or black organza-&-cotton cord. A pendant on a chain or organza-&-cotton cord comes in a sturdy black card gift box; a pendant on a leather cord comes in an organza bag so as not to distort the leather by tight folding.
