Pediastrum green algae brooch, Ernst Haeckel, from Kunstformen der Natur
Pediastrum green algae brooch, Ernst Haeckel.
Ernst Haeckel (1834 – 1919) was a German biologist, physician, professor, and artist who discovered and described thousands of new species. ‘Kunstformen der Natur’ (Art Forms in Nature) was a book of lithographic and halftone prints made from his drawings, in which he set out to convey the beauty, intricacy and organisation of natural forms. His work was influential not only in the natural sciences but also in early 20th-century art, architecture, and design.
The bronze-tone brooch is made from nickel-free alloy, and the glass cabochon is 25mm across. Each brooch comes in a sturdy black card gift box.
